Relief Society Council Summary 8/5/2018
Our council last Sunday centered on the scripture from D&C 88:118 - 120 and centered on how we can use this passage to bring meaning to our lives, homes and families. Some ideas from our sisters:- To improve Family Home Evening, it is helpful to prepare topics on pieces of paper. At Family Home Evening, the topic paper for the next week is drawn, and a family member is in charge of the lesson for the next week.
- Being organized helps us draw closer to God, and helps our homes be more like the temple.
- Fasting helps bring comfort and reassurance. A sister told her story of how fasting helped calm herself, even though her son is on a mission in Peru, and she constantly feels anxiety and worry about where her son is and whether he is okay.
- Prayer, family scripture reading, and Family Home Evening were not regularly practiced in another sister's home, but working on these things and doing them regularly has helped a sister new to our country feel more peace. She started with prayer for strength. "Every day gets better."
- A sister shared how something simple, like organizing a closet, can bring peace.
- "We should be willing to do what the Lord asks, then blessings will come."
- "Family needs each other no matter what." These were the words of a sister's daughter as shared in a tender moment by her mother during council. This sister shared her difficulties of the past few months and her testimony of the importance of family.
